​ Jacquie Chandler

Chandler was working as a Corporate Story Coach for a local sales messaging company, when she attended a tourism conference in South Lake Tahoe. Inspired by success stories of destinations who had adopted these Geotourism principles, Chandler ended up being appointed the Geotourism Liaison for Lake Tahoe basin, by NGCSD, National Geographic’s Center for Sustainable Destinations.

Penelope Curtis

Penelope Curtis is president of Sustainable Tahoe and has a 50 year background in non-profit arts, culture, orchestral organizational management. She is a Board Source certified non-profit development consultant and founder of the Julia Morgan Conservancy (saved the Grass Valley North Star House) now a cultural heritage tourism site in Nevada County. From 2006-2008, Penelope was the Coordinator of the California Cultural Heritage Tourism Council, a department of the California Travel & Tourism Commission.

​​Ava Hinojosa

Ava is an executive management professional and leader with a demonstrated work history in nonprofit and profit industries. Skilled in Organizational Management, Business Operations, Programs, and Customer Service. Ava enabled the first Washo-inspired Earth Walk site at the Incline Village Welcome Center, along with creating an Indigenous heritage showcase in the Visitor Center. She is active with guiding funding opportunites and strategic insight in aligning business interests to NGO missions.

Dona Wessells

​​A sustainable landscape professional, Dona's insight and guidance has led to the current book and media project that is is also in service to helping the next generation navigate the social and ecological landscape they are inheriting.

​Dr Shay Strauss

​Shay grew up in Lake Tahoe and has a deep passion for sustainability in the Tahoe Basin. While recieving her undergraduate at UC Berkeley in Conservation Ecology she spent summers as a restoration ecology research assistant in the Tahoe Basin. She has years of volunteer work with organizations like the Tahoe Rim Trail, Protect Our Winters, and many of our local ski resorts. Her passion for caring for people and the planet led her to becoming an Emergency Physician after getting her Masters in Biochemistry. The impact of climate change on Tahoe and our populations health becomes more obvious each year. With her scientific background and lived experience of growing up in Tahoe, Shay provides unique and evidence based guidance to Sustainable Tahoe efforts.

​Ben Rupert

​Washoe Paiute Sustainable Travel Guide and Educator. Ben has been a guiding light on indigenous wisdom that formed the core of the original peoples culture. His efforts around the lake to showcase a way forward in reconnecting modern culture to the ancient culture of caring so the people, planet and all of earths species have a chance to co-exist.

Cary Crites

​Lake Tahoe Marine Captain, Cary is a founding member and contributor of the organization since 2010. Instrumental is helping produce the Stewardship Congress, the 4 Tahoe Expos. Cary's ability to connect and inspire the community led to the organizations greatest moments and awards. His current profession provides insight around how to make the Daphnia (floating science lab) a reality.
